Haji Agus Salim was born with the name of Mashudul Haq meaning "truth defender", born in Koto Gadang, Agam, West Sumatra, Dutch East Indies, October 8, 1884. Born from Soetan Salim Soetan Mohamad Salim and Siti Zainab. His father's last position was the Chief Prosecutor's Office at the Riau High Court. Basic education is taken at Europeesche Lagere School (ELS), a special school of European children, then proceeded to Hoogere Burgerschool (HBS) in Batavia. When he graduated, he succeeded in becoming the best graduate at HBS in the Dutch East Indies. After graduating, Salim worked as a translator and notary assistant at a mining company in Indragiri. In 1906, Salim went to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to work at the Dutch Consulate there. In this period Salim studied at Sheikh Ahmad Khatib, who was still his uncle. Salim then went into journalism since 1915 in Neratja Daily as Editor II. After that the Chief Editor was appointed. Married to Zaenatun Nahar and blessed with 8 children. His activities in the field of journalism continued until finally became Indies Baroe Daily Leader in Jakarta. Then set up the Fadjar Asia newspaper. And then as Daily Editor of Moestika in Yogyakarta and opened the Office of Suggestion Informatie Oemoem Information Bureau (AIPO). Simultaneously, Agus Salim went into politics as the leader of the Sarekat Islam. Agus Salim is a well known Indonesian freedom fighter in an organization called Sarekat Islam. The man who was born on the eighth day of October 1884 also served as a member of 9 BPUPKI committees preparing the 1945 Constitution. Due to his expertise in international relations, he was trusted as minister of foreign affairs of the Sjahrir II and III cabinet, and served as foreign minister for Amir Sjarifuddin and Hatta. In 1952, Haji Agus Salim served as Chairman of the PWI Honorary Board. This is a closing career in the world of political arena. He turned to spend his old age as a book writer. The book has been published from his hand entitled "How Destiny, Tawakal, and Tauchid Must Be Understood". The book was later corrected to "Philosophy Information About Tauchid, Takdir, and Tawakal". The book he wrote was also the fruit of his experience as a journalist in his youth. Young Agus Salim began his career as Editor II at Neratja Daily who was later appointed Editor in Chief. Not stopping there, he also became the leader of the Baroe Daily Indian in Jakarta, and then founded the Fadjar Asia newspaper. Unfortunately, his career had to stop on November 4, 1954. He left this world forever. His body was buried in TMP Kalibata, Jakarta. All the struggles he did both in politics and the mass media have become the name of the Indonesian nation.
